The Firm & Founder

Brock A. Wanless

Founder & Attorney At Law

Brock founded Wanless LLC in January 2024 after spending two decades in various in-house roles at start-ups, a Fortune 200 company, and other organizations. Through his decades of experience, Brock gained invaluable and unique perspectives as an executive and advisor, creating a “business focused” approach to his legal practice and clients, which creates more efficient legal processes and practical, actionable counsel for clients.

Brock’s first-hand experience working through what organizations really want from their in-house and outside counsel was the genesis for founding Wanless LLC after finalizing the sale of his last company. Small businesses and start-ups are all in need of experienced, efficient legal support, but many cannot afford large law firm rates or do not yet need in-house counsel. That is where Brock and his firm, Wanless LLC, neatly fits – bringing an in-house approach to outside counsel.

Prior to founding Wanless LLC, Brock served for four years as the Chief Legal Officer at a hyper-growth (peak valuation of $4B) healthcare technology start-up in Columbus, Ohio, where he built and managed the company’s legal department, overseeing all legal, compliance, government affairs, and eventually IT/information security initiatives, in addition to serving as a trusted advisor to the management team, and serving as corporate secretary to the board of directors. Brock also served as the co-executive sponsor of the women’s employee resource group, an employee led group focused on promoting and advancing women within the organization.

Brock also spent over seven years at Groupon, Inc. in their Chicago headquarters, where he served in various roles, lastly as Managing Counsel leading Groupon’s Global Privacy and Regulatory team, which oversaw global privacy and data security, regulatory compliance, consumer protection matters, and government affairs. Brock was an active ally with various Groupon ERGs, including serving as a mentor on behalf of the Women@Groupon ERG to its young professional members.

A native Ohioan, Brock resides in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, where he enjoys raising his three rambunctious children, rooting on THE Ohio State University football team, attempting to stave off a “Dad bod” through CrossFit, and spending time with close family and friends.  Brock holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from The College of Wooster, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toledo College of Law, and is licensed to practice law in the state of Ohio.
